Also required is an editor where the actual HTML code can be written. There are two types of HTML editors: Text Editors and WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) Editors. Both of them have their advantages and disadvantages: WYSIWYG Editors are very easy to use since they rely on a graphical user interface (i.e. you tell the program where you want an image and it does it for you). If you are using a text editor, you must enter everything manually, which might seem hard at the beginning, but it gets easier after you start memorizing the various HTML tags. Yes, you can memorize them all easily!

With WYSIWYG Editors you do not even need to learn HTML: they are made for people who cannot afford to hire a professional web designer to design their pages or just like to do things by themselves. But like all things that are easy to use, you will find that WYSIWYG Editors are quite limiting, especially if you are trying to design a complex page that is supposed to look exactly the way you want it to look.

One huge advantage of text editors is that most of them are free, and most operating systems (i.e. Windows 95/98) have one included with them. At first it might seem complicated since you will need to keep referring to an HTML Guide. But after a while, you will start memorizing the tags and you will finally realize how much freedom you have with a text editor over a WYSIWYG editor.

All this comes down to the following: If you want to design an interesting homepage for fun, and don't have the time to learn HTML and code it manually, WYSIWYG Editors are for you. But if you like a challenge, can type faster than the guy next door, have lots of time on your hands, and/or want to go into designing webpages profesionally, text editors are definitely for you.
